A Community Occupational Therapist provides client-centred services to individuals across the lifespan, supporting them to achieve greater independence and improve quality of life. They assess functional needs, develop and implement personalised intervention plans, and provide education and support to clients, families, and carers. Working within the community, they often collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external services to ensure holistic care. The role may involve home visits, centre-based therapy, and support under programs such as the NDIS, Medicare, or other funding frameworks.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of clients’ functional abilities, home environment, and daily living skills

  • Develop and implement individualised intervention plans to improve independence and participation

  • Provide education and support to clients, families, and carers on strategies, equipment, and adaptations

  • Recommend and train clients in the use of assistive devices or adaptive equipment

  • Conduct home and community visits to assess and address environmental barriers

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external services to ensure coordinated care

  • Monitor and evaluate client progress, updating goals and plans as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy

  • Current registration with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist

  • Experience working with clients in community, home, or outpatient settings

  • Knowledge of assessment tools and intervention strategies for clients across the lifespan

  • Understanding of funding frameworks such as NDIS, Medicare, or other community-based programs

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills to work with clients, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams
